Testify of His Goodness

Psalm 93:3-4a The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on High is mightier...

The 2010 Nashville flood was one of the most memorable events I have lived through. When the rain began on May 1st my friend and I were headed to Costco to buy some groceries. The downpour started as we drove into the parking lot. We thought it was just a passing shower and hoped to wait it out, but after 30 minutes the rain came down harder. 45 minutes later and it still hadn't let up.

Little did we know the downpour would end up lasting for two days! The flood waters began rising almost immediately, destroying homes, cars, and entire neighborhoods. 31 people lost their lives.

It was a catastrophic, horrible event.

In the aftermath the people of Nashville rallied together like I have never seen before. Neighbors helped neighbors, organizations were inundated with volunteer workers eager to help clean up, and the people of Tennessee showed what it truly meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the midst of trouble.

There are times in life when the clouds will open up and downpours of rain will unexpectedly bring rising flood waters of trials and pain. At first you hope to wait it out, surely the "rain" will end soon, but it only gets worse. In the hardest moments you tell youself if one more thing goes wrong you're just going to give up.

My friend, don't give up. Even when it feels like water is just beneath your chin and you're about to go under, cry out to God for strength to endure. The Lord on High is mighty, and He will lift you out of the flood waters. There is life on the other side of this downpour and God can carry you through. Who knows how the hands and feet of Christ may appear in your life, but God will show up...somehow, someway.

The Lord is good and He is mighty to save. You're gonna be okay, and the day will come when you will Testify of His Goodness.

Josh
