Psalm 10:1-2
10 Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 2 In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
Some questions have been asked for many generations. Like, “Why does evil prosper and goodness suffer?” Or, “Who do bad things happen to good people?” Far too many times it seems as though wickedness runs amok and has its way while people who desire to do good and follow the ways of the Lord suffer. The question becomes how long will God allow this to continue?
We want to shout from the rooftops, “Lord, do something!”
The answer to the “how long?” question is revealed in verse 14 of this Psalm of assurance as God promises His hand will be the one to stop injustice. God will break the arm of the wicked and ultimate victory will be realized in him.
Do you believe there is more to this world than what you can see with your eyes? Do you believe there is an eternity that awaits? I do! The Lord oversees all of it, and the day is coming when all people will stand before His throne.
The Lord is patient and the Lord is merciful, and that is why evil appears to go unpunished. But the Lord is also faithful and just, so the day will come when His hand is raised and judgement will fall upon the earth. In His hand will be a sword and justice will be served.
When will this time be? Soon.
Lord, it can very hard to watch evil flourish while goodness is tormented. We cry out to you and ask for patience while we wait for your glorious return. Amen
