The Test

Psalm 11:4-5

4 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. 5 The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

In many ways Psalm 11 feels like an answer to Psalm 10. The Lord looks down on all the evil and injustice in the world and His eyes are looking for who will remain faithful to Him, and who will seek evil through exploiting and harming others.

It’s easy to become anxious over the rise of evil in the world, and it’s tempting to join in with evil when it appears to be prosperous and advantageous to those who partake in it. Don’t give in to that lie!

The true test of faith, and a sign of faithfulness to the Lord, is to remain upright and devoted to the Lord and His word in the midst of evil. Trust in the Lord and believe that the temporary gains found in an ever-darkening world cannot surpass the rewards that God has for the faithful in an eternal heaven.

Remember this, Satan offered Jesus a shortcut to earthly success with three temptations in the wilderness. The shortcuts were paths to earthly gain. But Jesus had a heavenly mission and he remained faithful to it. He passed the test.

Trust in Jesus and follow Him as your example. With Him as your role model and in His strength, you can pass the test.

Jesus, give me the strength to pass any test that comes my way. I know there will be opportunities to follow the ways of the world. Help me to always trust in you and follow your ways. Amen
